One of the best – yet easiest to forget – things about living in Paris is that you don't have to go very far to leave it. Dealing with French bureaucracy kept me France-bound for the holidays, but I was lucky enough to be adopted by two wonderful French friends, Catherine and Caroline and invited to their family home in Picardie (about a 40 minute train ride from Paris). Little did I know what a treat it would be (more on that tomorrow), and how nice it was to spend time with a family, have more space and get out of the city. For now, here's a look at our stroll through Senlis, where we did final shopping on Christmas eve.

I can relate! I'm currently in the midst of my receiving back the paperwork for my titre de sejour....I'm within my "3 mois" of completing all the paper work, so was able to leave the country for Xmas, but still..oy. I feel your pain! Pics are beautiful...have been following your blog for quite some time! Take care and Happy New Year (from one anglo in Paris to another)!
I was in a similar situation this Christmas--not dealing with visa issues (thank goodness), but a long, long way from home, and I was taken in by a great Australian family. It's funny how another family can stand in as an almost-as-good (or maybe in some cases, better) substitute for your own. Glad you had a nice Christmas!
Its always great to spend time with family, even though they are your friend's family. And as always the pics are simply awesome.

Senlis/the surrounding towns was where I stayed during my exchange trip in high school! It was beautiful in the summer and looks like a great area to be adopted to for Christmas as well :)
