Design in The Big Apple

Another great thing about Baltimore is that it’s so easy to bop over to DC, Philly or New York for the weekend (MARC to DC, Amtrak for ease and convenience or Chinatown Bus for a no-frills great deal). If you find yourself in NYC anytime soon, here are a couple things worth checking out.

Hoefler & Frere-Jones type foundry offers a typographic tour through New York City with AIGA/NY. [If you can’t make it to the actual event H&FJ has loaded a super cool Google Earth map showing their tour route on their blog]. {image via H&FJ at typography.com}

50 books/50 covers is one of my favorite AIGA sponsored events (I’m convinced that book cover design is the one realm of design where American designers have the Europeans beat). Two years ago they had a great installation with old school desks and video screens to show off the best of the best when it comes to book design. Visit the exhibit now through November 21st at the AIGA National Design Center at 164 Fifth Avenue. [Search more cool books in the amazing AIGA design archives].

And for all you West Coasters, I noticed that Victoria at SFgirlbybay has added a weekly “Happenings” post every Friday with design savvy things going on in the Bay Area.
