Design of Taste

{the fun to navigate Proef website}

As if the Dutch didn’t already have it going on with their great style and innovative design, but then they go one step further. Let me introduce you to Proef – the God[dess] of food design. While most restaurants are concerned with the presentation of their food, the styling of food here (a food studio turned eatery) transcends beyond the food and plate to the entire experience: the ingredients, the taste, the texture, the color, the ambiance. I bet you never thought about the seven points of inspiration in which a designer can approach food. Check it out for yourself on their blog too with more recent projects (look for the chocolate mustaches and vegetable jewelry), or better yet, next time you’re in Amsterdam or Rotterdam go for a meal!

{Despite not being able to read Dutch, this sure
looks appetizing on the Proef blog}

Tip: If you like Proef, look for the Friday food column called “In the Kitchen With” with recipes by independent designer on Design*Sponge every week.
And if anyone is at home today, check out the Martha Stewart Show. A producer contacted me this week asking to use one of the images I shot at the Blueprint-inspired wine tasting I threw over the summer. My fingers are crossed that it makes it on.

  • Haha. I did not watch the show, but I did have my friend Bridget TiVo it. According to her she didn’t see the picture (that likely would have been up for 2 seconds in a segment about how the magazine – which is closing (boo) influenced my party…but they do have it for next time). . . However, yesterday I did get much more exciting news than Martha, but that announcement will come in a couple weeks.
