“Make” a Friend
The web is bursting with great holiday gift guides (Cup of Joe, Design*Sponge and Zzilch have some of my favorites), but sometimes there are those gifts that money can’t buy. This coming Saturday (Dec 15) is Sock Monkey Saturday at the American Visionary Art Museum. The event is free, and all you need is to “bring a clean pair of socks to ‘make’ a new friend.”
Two weeks ago my office was privileged enough to have our very own sock monkey making workshop, and I must say, as crazy as it sounds it was a complete blast! Our workday ends at 5:30, but most people stayed until 7pm (on a Friday!) because they were so into it. I can’t tell you how impressed I was with some of the stitch work out of the guys as well!
By way of a follow up, Seeing Beyond Sight was a huge success! I’ll wait to do a full post on it until I have a chance to do the Blind Photography Challenge myself (I was too busy helping all day). In the meantime, check out the Flickr group devoted to the challenge. A truly eye opening experience…

Hey, c’mon, guys can sew, too! Who else repairs buttons for bachelors? Working 3 years in the costume shop in college doesn’t hurt, either.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I know guys can sew. I just meant it as there was some truly incredible stick work going on! We couldn’t stop talking about how impressed we were all weekend. I guess I should take some lessons from the guys…
