Cairo
I was catching up on the New York Times over the weekend and saw the piece “36 Hours in Cairo” and the image in the story reminded me of a picture I took of our felucca driver (above) while in Egypt a few years ago. Whenever I plan a trip, the NYT is one of my first stops for research. I love the “36 Hours in” series (part of me wants to challenge myself and go one of these places for exactly 36 hours), and the “travel guide” collection of articles relating to the place (just type the location to run a search…here’s the Cairo Travel Guide). The slideshows are also a wonderful way to travel vicariously.

I do a similar thing with searching the UK weekend papers – Times, Telegraph, Guardian or Observer for travel articles. The Telegraph has a similar series of travel guides. Now I’ll remember to check out the New York Times too

Cairo is such a cool city. I’d love to spend more time there, and get to know it better. I think Wallpaper* recently came out with (or is going to come out with soon) a city guide for Cairo- I’m really curious about what will be in it. -X

Those ’36 hours in…’ articles by the NYT are the best. Am always reading them, imagining being there or imagine writing them from a different angle. One day will get around to submitting one to the NYT… Did get a similar article published in the local New Zealand Sunday Paper on ’48 hours in Tucson’ but the NYT, that would be great…
cheers from sunny new zealand,
