Wild & Wonderful
Their license plates say it all: Wild Wonderful West Virginia. No matter what you do, you can’t help but feel the charm of this place. The locals are friendly, and if you see them at the brewery one night, there’s a good chance you’ll run into them at breakfast the next morning. Life is slower, but doesn’t make it any less exciting. Seriously, there’s no better way to get the heart rate up than the sight (and sound) of a rattlesnake! (see above – Don’t worry, this was the first for the local too!) You will definitely come home with tales to tell…
A few Thomas/Davis, West Virginia favorites:
- Sirianni’s Pizza – pizza with the locals
- Hellbender – bangin’ burritos
- The Saw Mill – big greasy breakfast
- Hypno Coffee – family run fair trade coffee shop good for hanging out
- Bright Morning – breakfast and inn
- Purple Fiddle – breakfast, inn and live music at night
- Mountain State Brewing Co. – best beer ever! (see yesterday’s post)

So glad you had such a wonderful time in my home state. Always friendly and beautiful, WV has a lot to offer. But don’t forget the crisis at hand, either. Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining is threatening the whole region. Check out ilovemountains.org to learn more. Sorry, had to.

Thanks for the info, d.marie. My friend’s father also works on the environmental protection end of mining. Clearly a problem, so thanks for sharing.

sounds wonderful. I heart Virginia! and thanks for the tip about Charlottesville — next time I talk to my friend, I’ll have to ask her if she’s done it. :)
