Road Trip, 1928
From June 25 to August 22, 1928 my grandfather, Roland, and his friends took a road trip out west (departing from St. Louis). 7,300 miles later, these are a few of my favorite pages from his photo album he created about the trip. Ah, if only men still wore slacks and ties on visits to the Grand Canyon. . . {click images to enlarge}

This is so cool! You’ve inspired me to get my act together with my summer photos–currently in a pile on my desk awaiting captions.

This is fantastic!!! Doesn’t it make you wonder what your grandchildren will think when they read your blog 80 years from now???

I’m so tempted to dress like that when I’m traveling. If I ever do, I’ll send photos. -X

That’s very weird. A good friend of mine here at school is named Roland. He’s from St. Louis and is the third Roland in his family. Connection?
Lovely images. You’re lucky to have something like this.

Don’t think so, Lauren – unless there is something I don’t know ;) . . . My grandfather passed away last summer at the age of 98.

Wow…amazing photos. Amazing blog as well. Unfortunately, I’m the first (documented) traveler in my family and I’d love to have had generational inspiration like this.

Whoa. Very cool. I recently took a trip covering many of those same spots and it’s fun to see them portrayed from days gone by. Really lovely…

These are fabulous, Anne. Travel / adventure photography runs deep in your family. I have a whole album of my grandmother doing exactly the opposite – hanging around her apartment with her best friend. Posed pictures of them listening to the radio, lounging on the bed (fully clothed :)), cooking, etc. All the while, the men were away fighting in WWII. Somehow they look fabulous doing all that. Just like your Roland and his pal!
