Austin!
When I first started researching for my latest edition of fabulous designers to feature in the design*sponge regional roundup, I had no idea that I had a trip in store right around the corner. While this is not my first trip the city – this time it’s a reunion with my two best buds from studying abroad in Paris – I’m super excited to explore this city deeper, and with my new found Austin design scene knowledge. Click here for the regional roundup: Austin- part 1!
Tell me, dear readers, do you have any suggestions for me? I’m headed to Austin this weekend.

As far as must dos- you must have a mexican breakfast and my favorite place is a hole in the wall called “Juan in a Million”. The owner also has the best handshake in Austin. I would recommend the Don Juan Taco or huevos rancheros. Walk through and sit out on the porch (if it isn’t too cold).
You have to go to Uncommon Objects. It is on South Congress and has all sorts of neat “junk”. Parts and Labor on SoCo also features indie artists and designers from Texas. Allen’s Boots on SoCo has a massive selection so it’s fun to stroll through even if you aren’t buying.
My husband and I are also always at the Alamo Drafthouse having dinner and catching a movie so if you have time, you could throw that in. It’s a very “Austin” sort of experience.
For eating I would recommend- eastside cafe, homeslice, polvos, hyde park grill and you must get amy’s ice cream or a cupcake from hey cupcake.
