Reminds Me Of . . .

{Montpellier, France – Essaouira, Morocco – Lefkara, Cyprus}

While wandering the narrow streets of the heart of Montpellier I couldn’t help be reminded of the Moroccan medina in Essaouira with the pale stone facades and blue accent colors. It also took me back to the Lefkara and Old City Nicosia in Cyprus. I realized I play this game every time I travel to come up with associations of the places I’ve been. Here are a few more:

– Las Vegas is like Disneyland meets New York City and Paris
– Morocco is colorful like India, with the friendliness of Cambodia
– Austin, TX is rainbow row of Charleston, SC meets the bungalows of Venice Beach, CA
– Iceland is like a neon flavored 80s music video that’s hip and cool (in all senses of the word)

Where have you traveled that reminds you of other places you’ve been?

  • There are parts in souther Florida reminds me of certains parts of NZ’s east coast with it’s windswept beach,dunes and flat land.

    It doesn’t sound as romantic as your streets of Montpellier and Morocco though.

  • Sounds like I need to go to Iceland!

    I occasionally have a very surreal feeling when I’m in one country and it makes me think of another–kind of like deja vu–but you know, now that I try to put my finger on it, I just can’t. I’ll have to pay closer attention next time.

  • I thought Hong Kong felt like a cross between Sydney (the harbour setting), Europe (some of the winding and steep cobblestone streets around Central) mixed with mainland China. A pretty cool combo!
