Boarding Pass – Elodie Rambaud

After ringing in the New Year with French stylist, Elodie Rambaud, I thought she’d be the perfect person to kick off the new year of Boarding Pass. As a stylist with a great eye, I was curious how her travels influence her work. I see a lot of Japanese and Asian simplicity in her styling, and even in her travel shots, I’m impressed how much she is able to cut the clutter in her captures. Merci beaucoup, Elo!
last trip taken:
I went to Brittany last November with my boyfriend. One of my best trips in France lately. Who says that it always rains in Brittany? We had a week of sun, not very warm of course, but beautiful lights, very wild landscapes and very nice seafood and crepes!

next trip on deck:
Hawaii! I am flying to Maui next month! I am really looking forward to it for many reasons.

one place you would go back to again and again:
Now I would say Australia because I have good friends there, I had a great time and plus they have the best pool!

{Sydney Opera House & Bondi Beach}

place you’d most likely recommend a friend go visit:
Reunion Island. It’s beautiful, lots of people don’t know much about this Island which just won the Unesco world heritage status.

{Reunion}

preferred method of transportation:
I like driving.

{crossing the Daintry River in Australia}

place you’ve never been but dying to go:
New Zealand and Argentina/ Chili.

{Reunion}

place you’d never go back:
I don’t recall any.

{Varanasi, India}

most memorable trip in 2 sentences or less:
Seychelles Islands for the dives.

{Hamilton Island}

{Tasmania}

how do you prepare for a trip?
I don’t prepare much, I always follow the mood and the flow – that’s how I traveled to Japan and met my friend Yumiko Sekine from Fog Linen.

{In Japan with Yumiko}

how do you record your travels when you’re traveling?
I take pictures and I buy objects for my job. I ended up sending a 7kilo parcel back from Tokyo.

{Hawaii (left), details South Australia from the plane (right)}

what is your favorite thing to photograph in a new place?
Everything that catches my attention, but looking at my pictures I would say landscapes and people.

{Varanasi, India}

on an average, how many pictures to you take on a trip?
Depending on the trip, I can take from 50 to 300 pictures.

{Fez, Morocco}

what’s in your “designer travel kit” ?
My camera, that’s probably the only thing I would use. Every trip I travel with a special notebook and pencils to draw, but it never really happens.

{Fez, Morocco}

what do you do after a trip? how long after a trip does this happen?
I always make a selection of the pictures I took and send them to my family and friends. I usually do this the week after I come back and usually send a write up that describes the entire trip, but I don’t put this online, I don’t even think about doing it…

{Bali}

{Singapore}

favorite souvenir/thing to bring back?
For me it’s the objects that I can use for my work – it always sounds weird but I travel back home with saucepans, spoons, plates, vintage patisserie moulds or a rolling pin…
