Talking Design

I’m really excited because about a month ago one of my former professors invited me to give a lecture on design for her class Media, Stuff and Values: Material Culture and Value Creation. As my Master’s program is in Global Communications, people come from a wide rage of backgrounds, but only one student in the class has a design background. I think that’s what excites me most – teaching design to non-designers, and making them see differently (hopefully).

The working title of my presentation is currently “Design & IM/MATERIAL Culture.” Although the class is rooted in material culture, I can’t help but see the importance of the immaterial nature of the Internet and those ideas floating somewhere out in cyberspace. I’m looking forward to being able to talk about some of my favorite designers, the creative things they’re cooking up, themes in my thesis and the new roles I see the internet playing in design. I still have until the afternoon to finesse my ideas and share more brilliant examples. Have you come across anything recently you think would be fitting? I always love learning about new discoveries, or being reminded of old ones too!
