Boarding Pass – Robyn Thompson

I always love discovering photographers who are able to capture the mood of the place through an image. Robyn Thompson‘s work is a reflection of the way she sees the world; the beauty all around us that she notices, captures and seeks it again. In a place like Morocco, a location full of color, I love Robyn‘s ability to capture texture through muted tones and natural light. In fact, it’s hard to believe that this is the first Boarding Pass captured entirely in black and white, all while showcasing her distinctive style across various locations. Thanks, Robyn! –Anne
home town: Vancouver, Canada
where you live now:
Vancouver, after having just returned from a season of living in Paris.
last trip taken:
While living in Paris, my husband and I spent a week in Marrakech, a week in Provence and a few weekend holidays around the Mediterranean.
next trip on deck:
I’m dreaming of Asia… the steaming street food and floating markets of Bangkok and an Indian jungle resort with safari adventures on the back of an elephant…
one place you would go back to again and again:
Paris, of course! A city of infinite indulgence and romance… we could see ourselves living in Paris again one day… and I dream of seeing our future babies babbling in French!
place you’d most likely recommend a friend go visit:
Marrakech was a dream!
preferred method of transportation:
A train through the countryside…
place you’ve never been but dying to go:
India!
place you’d never go back:
Hmmm… never say never!
Most memorable trip in 2 sentences or less:
A few years ago we spent a handful of days in the countryside in the south of France, drinking wine and cooking quiche with the locals, dining in an open field of wild flowers on a reclaimed wood table, hiking hills to overlook vast rural lands and visiting the open air markets to sample olives and cheeses.
how do you prepare for a trip?
My husband is the one who books the transportation and beautiful boutique hotels… I am the one who pours over city guides, making lists of all the must-sees and must-experiences.
how do you record your travels when you’re traveling?
Some scribbles in a notebook, that later become the stories on my blog… and of course, through my lens!
what is your favorite thing to photograph in a new place?
Details, details, details.
on an average, how many pictures to you take on a trip?
A hundred per day.
favorite souvenir/thing to bring back?
Just my own photographs… I am a minimalist and love to own as little as possible so that we can move & travel around the world at a moment’s notice.
what is one of your travel must haves?
Mac fix it spray, for refreshing in hot weather, rehydrating in dry winds and calming the skin during transit.
