High Five: Berlin

Last month I was in Berlin for The Hive conference. The way airfares were, I decided to go ahead and stay for a week, knowing as long as I have myself, my computer and internet from time to time, I can work from anywhere. It was my second trip to Berlin, so I didn’t feel any pressure to see or do anything in particular other than sit in cafés, work and explore. I mean chai tea lattés are only 2,50Euro in Berlin, so I had to find an excuse to have as many as possible! And as always, I’ve mapped out my “high five” picks on Everplaces.

Mauerpark – weekend mornings hit up the flea market. Then every Sunday at 3pm “impromptu” karaoke (schedule on FB) takes place here. Great fun and awesome people watching.

Wander into a former bus depot area now covered an ever-changing graffiti park. Hidden inside there’s even a bar, café and climbing wall. Go explore!

Prater Garten (top image) is perfect for a summer night with friends. Nothing beats beers and brats at a German beer garden.

Bully’s Bakery was my first stop this trip (after checking into Plus One Berlin – click here for my review), and soon became my most frequented stop on the trip with reliable internet and just a nice place to set up base. It’s a great café in the up and coming neighborhood of Kreuzkoelln. Super friendly place to humans, and dogs alike. Loved their museli, flammkuchen, chai lattes and pastries.

Betahaus was home to The Hive Bloggers Conference in May 12, and served as the perfect venue. It houses a wide range of spaces available for co-working (bring your laptop) opportunities, for those of you like me who work while they travel. There’s a large café downstairs too. When you’re in town check their site to see if there are any interesting lectures or events taking place.

BONUS: Modulor is he mecca of all craft stores.

There are a million guides out in the world, but of course you can’t do everything when you travel. So if you only have a limited time, these are my high five picks I’d recommend. Click here for more in the series.
