Harlem Shake

After being one of the last in the know when it came to “Gangnam Style” I feel strangely in the know about the latest dance craze, the “Harlem Shake.” The first video I came across [below] was by students the American University of Paris (where I got my Masters). There’s something about the banana costume that was strangely addictive. I immediately had to share with Julia Rothman, as we have a history of sharing weird dance moves (we were at a wedding once where she taught me a dance with a saggy leg!). Julia quickly got hooked and did a little research into this new “Harlem Shake” dance craze. Apparently it’s named for a 2013 instrumental track produced by Brooklyn-based Baauer, and begins with a masked individual dancing alone in a group. Then the party erupts. And then the next day my friend Mike posted the video above. Yes, even the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok got into the action. Apparently it all happened in one take at 7:25am (impressive). And, yes, I know who Captain America upside down in the back is now! I don’t know about you, but I find it refreshing to see people just letting loose + being goofy!

p.s. My MAPS class officially kicked off this week. My students are rocking my world. They’re awesome! It’s not too late to sign up. PROMISE. Also, no design experience or special software required. Sign up HERE.
