Visit Paris by Metro
My love of public transportation grows stronger every day as I see traffic get more and more out of control. On the Paris metro I can get just about anywhere in 30 minutes; the bus may be slower, but I discover new things along the way. And along the way, I also see inspiring design! The latest promo for the RATP Visit Paris by Metro app is no exception. I love the illustration style and sense of design in the video they put together. Even though I still default to my [paper] Plan de Paris, the app looks great, and especially nice that they included an offline functionality (I only wish it included the bus as well). Note: per usual with French apps, I’m struggling to find a link that works, so check the app store!
In other exciting Paris public transportation news, monthly pass holders will profite du dézonage, and can travel anywhere on the RER (even the airport) for free July 13–August 18th! The idea is to get people out and exploring (I know I’m ready to run away from the hoards of tourists), and rumor has it that Paris is considering getting rid of the zone system, and making it all one. [For those of you not from here, Paris proper is in zone 1-2, Versailles is zone 4, airports are zone 5 – the further you go, the more expensive it is]. These posters are from the campaign.
Speaking of the metro, don’t forget the How to ride the Paris Metro video that Ashley + I made!

The French version of the Visit Paris by Metro app video is hilarious :D “zuh frenchiezzz”. Getting rid of the zone system is such a good idea and will hopefully inspire Parisians to explore their city (and the suburbs!!!) a bit more. xx
